What changed
Recent reporting from CIO and Bluevine shows that AI adoption in small businesses is now nearly universal. Intuit found 89% of SMBs are using AI, while Bluevine reports 74% are using or testing it. US Chamber of Commerce confirms that investment in AI has jumped to 57%, up from 36% last year.
But the same research shows a deeper problem. Only 30% of employees at these companies use AI tools every day. The main reason, cited by 46% of businesses, is that the tools are not integrated into daily work. Cost and data access are also major issues, but the integration gap is the clearest blocker. Agencies and service firms have shifted their pricing to focus on solving this exact problem, moving away from hourly work to outcome-based and agent-licensing models.
