What changed
According to TechCrunch, Google has given its Gemini AI a full Workspace account and an agent that plugs into Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, and any major cloud provider. The same week, Notion shipped agents that can run for over 24 hours, and Oracle launched a no-code Agent Studio for business users. AI is now being built directly into the software small businesses already pay for.
AI Agents Directory and SBE Council both report that small business AI budgets are consolidating into the SaaS platforms already in use. Operators are choosing the built-in AI features over separate tools. FactoryJet, citing JPMC data, notes that agencies offering generic ChatGPT installs are being commoditized as these platforms add their own agents.
The shift is clear: the next wave of AI is not a new app, but an agent that lives inside your email, documents, and workflows. If your process still runs by hand, the decision is no longer about adding AI, but about how it fits into what you already use, and what a bundled agent cannot do.
